I read a lot of articles about entrepreneurs, and sometimes I get a kick out of it. That’s because I am an entrepreneur, and it’s funny to figure out how I’m supposed to do things.
There are articles dealing with how entrepreneurs sleep, eat, read,
live, love, party, work, and whatever else. There are entire books
dealing with the entrepreneur’s leadership, work ethic, personality, and
habits.
All of these can be helpful stuff, but it’s also misleading. There is no such thing as a single way
that entrepreneurs manage their time or deal with burnout.
Entrepreneurs, like any arbitrary segment of the population, are a
random group of people. Entrepreneurs have as much variety among
themselves as you’d find in a group of people riding a random subway car
in a New York City. Like the subway riders, about the only thing that
they have in common is the fact that they’re riding in the same train at
the same time.
There are quite a few things in the articles, books, and blogs that I
don’t hear about an entrepreneur’s life. That’s why I wrote this
article. Don’t expect this to be the final and authoritative word on
entrepreneurs, but I do hope to share some of the things that I’ve
learned (and wish I knew) about entrepreneurship.
Every entrepreneur is different.
Entrepreneurs are just people, and there is an incredibly wide variety of them. There’s no such thing as a cookie cutter entrepreneur.
When you try to think of an entrepreneur as fulfilling a certain
ideal or filling a certain mode, you’re off to a wrong start. Every
entrepreneur is different from every other entrepreneur.
You have to be a master delegator.
